This was my first deep dive into storage technology, and I must admit I was lucky enough to have NetApp as my entry to this world. For several time, I’ve been just playing the role of “client”, mounting NFS exports from this boxes, or helping on performance troubleshooting. During the 5 day training, they cover all you need to enter to the administration level of storage, SAN and NAS. This boxes are amazing, I had the opportunity to be working with them, just performing basic provisioning, and I think this phrase perfectly matches: “You get what you paid for”, and they take it seriously. From the technical side, I really enjoyed command-line interfaces, and they have taken this and adjusted just for storage purposes. Things like the DFM, Metro-Clusters, RAID 6 DP, are just about the kind of technology you will find very very interesting.
